The four brothers worked on the docks for three years, saved their money and returned to Italy. There they purchased the ancestral home in Castlepetrosa near Isernia and Campobasso, Italy. Nicola was a singer and musician. He left Italy in 1900 and settled in an Italian ghetto in Newark, NJ. He opened a saloon with a friend and entertained customers with Italian songs. He met Pasquale Gilbert Abruzzese, a prompter in an opera house in Newark. He was invited to the Abruzzese home where he met Uncle Gilbert's sister Fidalba. When Gilbert moved to Pen Argyl, PA to get out of the pollution of NJ, Nicola followed him to be near Fidalba. They married and moved back to New Jersey. Two years after the marriage, George was born. Eventually, they moved to Pen Argyl where Uncle Gilbert obtained a job for Nicola running the steam engine at a slate quarry.
